Workstead
The Wythe Hotel Lobby
In 2011, Workstead created the public interiors of the Wythe Hotel. Our design dramatically reorganized spaces within a 19th-century Brooklyn building and fosters different understandings of past and present. In the lobby, a juxtaposition of rough-hewn wood, barrister bookcases, and midcentury furnishings represents industrial and knowledge economies. For the Ides Bar, Workstead referenced nautical heritage by creating a bowed bar structure, which frames the Manhattan view. Deemed instantly iconic, the project helped cement Williamsburg’s reputation as the new gravitational center of Brooklyn.
