Park Slope Apartment

Park Slope Apartment is found inside the flatiron-like 47 Plaza Street West, a 1928 apartment building on Brooklyn’s Prospect Park originally designed by Rosario Candela. Reusing existing carcasses, Workstead elevated the kitchen with one-of-a-kind doors and hand-routed handles that seem to emerge from the cabinet facing. We also coated the doors in a matte yet cleanable French Gray, and proceeded to bathe all of the residence’s walls, baseboards, window frames, interior shutters, and even radiators in the color: multiple architectural elements now read as a textured plane. The commission also comprised custom foyer millwork that contains closets and cubbies, as well as a multipurpose Eckbank placed in the breakfast area. Our quiet pairing of gray and oak is a calm counterpoint to Candela’s dynamic floor plan—and to the Brooklyn energy unfolding below.
